I am surely one of the few Ticker alumni who still regularly read their college paper’s stories after graduation.
I know of at least two other alumni, but let me have my moment.
“This study was not about news consumption or expanding coverage to meet the needs of a community. Just like the rest of the conference, it was about money,” write Emma Delahanty (business editor) and Zoe Del Percio-Evans (arts and culture editor) for The Ticker.
The Ticker was apparently the only collegiate paper to show up at The America’s Newspaper Foundation’s annual Mega-Conference last month.
Every now and then, I try to figure out how concerned Gen Z journalists are about the future of the industry, how committed they are to staying in it — and where on earth do I stand in that as one of two in an undergraduate journalism class of roughly 20 alumni that stayed in journalism.
I enjoyed reading their analysis, and hopefully I’m not alone.
Also, go hire Emma!
