This is a humble reminder that Queens is the best borough — and one to say check out your community bookstores.
You might even run into your favorite local comedian/historian, who then tries to get you to scram so he can film a serious video.
That was my scenario, but I do look forward to seeing soon. Many apologies to Tom Delgado for smiling too much.
But in all seriousness, if you’re in the borough or visiting Jackson Heights, do stop by The World’s Borough Bookshop, which opened within the past three years to address the lack of bookstores in the area and introduce a diverse community to more diverse voices.
The first thing I did when I first learned about Adrian Cepeda’s business in February 2024 was run over, meet him, and discover new authors and local artists.
That said, a zine and art pieces by Bonnie Wong, shop manager and illustration alumna of the Fashion Institute of Technology, are displayed on my desk.
If I was a business journalist for a local paper like the Queens Chronicle, I wouldn’t think twice on telling Adrian’s story. He has done a few interviews about the store and his background, like this one conducted by Rodrigo Brandao.
Great spot, great people and great neighborhood — to the point I once took college folks on a tour of Jackson Heights, but that’s a story for another day.
