I originally wrote this haiku for a correspondent who requested a haiku about stars, and I’m sharing it this week for the first week of autumn.
Fomalhaut
秋の空
楓が浮かべ
孤の星へ
Aki no sora
Kaede ga ukabe
Ko no hoshi e
The sky of autumn —
Maple leaves emerge, floating
Towards the lone star
For the translation of 孤の星 or ko no hoshi, I went with the nickname of the Fomalhaut, which is known as the loneliest star.
