Haiku #17: Fog and Sound

Here’s a delayed haiku to start the week. I drew inspiration from a foggy day on the road, though there were no trains passing in the towns I saw the fog. Still, nothing completes New England suspense fantasy like crossing strangers on train somewhere.

The first eight syllables in the English version are what I had in my arekore notes, but I think I’m more satisfied with the Japanese version.

Fog and Sound

If you hear the train

in the fog, whistle a tune

and all will be fine

If, inside this fog,

you can hear a train, a tune

makes everything fine
