If the name is too difficult to pronounce, these fellows can also be referred to as “flying bells” or “white-spotted jellyfish.” I unintentionally started a jellyfish-themed week, but I could assure you that this will be my last jellyfish of the week. I haven’t been to a lot of aquariums, only three – I look more videos than photos at the National Aquarium.
Sunshine Aquarium is located on the top floor of the Sunshine City shopping and entertainment complex in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro. Though the area is surrounded my buildings and few small gardens and parks, this rooftop aquarium takes you to a photo-friendly escape with observation “caves” where you can see penguins swim from underneaths and transparent slides with sea lions and albatross.
If sea life isn’t you thing, you can head to the musical planetarium on the other side of the level or the indoor amusement parks and gachapon alley underneath.
