The World in Full Bloom: Tulip Day NYC

It’s been a while since I’ve written about flowers or shared any floral photography.

But in the spirit of receiving an extra ticket to attend the inaugural Tulip Day event in New York — shout out to Mariana Oliva, copy editor of The Ticker — I’m dumping a few photos.

As I learned, while the April 7 event dispenses timed-entry tickets, you don’t have to worry if you arrive late because the trains weren’t cooperating.

I’ve seen a lot of people pick tulips in full bloom. Sure, those picks are lovely for social media, but they won’t live very long afterward. Instead, go after the ones that are still developing. They could use your love — as well as some water. Also, go for a variety of color. Like the rainbows in the sky, your vase — or wherever you decide to keep your bulbs — shall be vibrant.

I made the creative decision to walk from the Union Square affair to a Midtown restaurant. Look — the tulips were my lunch date. Now, if you noticed the pink tulip in the photo, it looks like it is about to explode, maybe wilt.

This kid certainly flourished. I’ve never seen a tulip like this. Perhaps this is the true definition of what it means to be in full bloom.

But see, if you see a beautiful flower that looks like it’s going to collapse, wilt or something — keep in mind, it has the potential to be like this, or go beyond expectations.
