‘Audrey Hepburn in Paris’ in Glen Cove

Meghan Friedlander is a fan of Audrey Hepburn, so much so that the writer dedicates her time to researching the life of the actress and humanitarian and runs a blog. She hoped to one day publish a coffee table book featuring rare photos of the star. This involves acquiring old magazines with articles and photos from around the world and tracking down the publisher or photographer to get their permission to use these materials.

Years of dedication resulted in the Feb. 13 release of “Audrey Hepburn in Paris,” a book written on the request of Luca Dotti, Hepburn’s youngest son, back in 2020. She kept the news a secret up until October.

While Meghan is based in the San Francisco Bay area, I had the pleasure of running around Long Island and Manhattan last Sunday taking photos of her book at places relevant to Hepburn’s life — including one of the chapters in the book.

In the embedded tweet, I added alt text so readers may better understand where I went.

But in particular, Glen Cove gets a shout out in the chapter about the making of the 1954 film “Sabrina” since it was — for the most part — the setting for the film. There was a scene filmed on location at the Glen Cove train station, and I had the book pose in the place where Hepburn was.

Now — what on earth do I have to do with this book? And why does she care so much about Meghan’s ambitions that she decided to write, albeit with hesitation, a LinkedIn post about it?

In September 2021, I started helping her by translating and identifying the sources of the Japanese materials she was using for her blog and the book. With that said, I knew I’d be in her book early last year, but I didn’t know when it would come out.

I’m not as big of a fan as Meghan makes me sound in the book — in fact, it was her who spurred my fascination!

Anyway, if you happen to be a fellow fan or an appreciator of well written biographies, this book might be for your reading list.
