For this haiku’s title, I wanted to reference Spica, the star that represents the wheat or corn carried by the maiden known as Virgo. It’s one of the brightest stars in the night sky. I wasn’t going to reference the star in the Japanese haiku. In fact, the reference came up while writing an alternative English version, which will be below the Japanese haiku’s English translation.
This week’s poem was mostly inspired by the Olympics.
Turn that Kernel into a Star

Kandou de
Ukabu kirameki
Yobu “Kimi mo!”

These sparkles that float
from passionate emotion
call to me, “you too!”
With passion at night,
stars call to me, “you can too!”
