Haiku #20: アイ

There’s a page titled “Haikus” in my notes that I haven’t read since the end of June 2020, at least a year before I started writing haikus. Had I bothered to reread it, I probably would’ve churned out more poetic things in 17 syllables on this site, but it’s nice to take things slow.

Ai, or the Thing My Eyes See/What I Call Love

いつも「アイ」

ひとりぼっち「アイ」

私「アイ」

Itsumo “ai”

Hitoribocchi “ai”

Watashi “ai”

***

It is always “I”

Looking at lonely me, “eye”

“Love,” all that is I
