This is part one of two posts that focus on this particular day.
I remember getting out the station, seeing a small store front that I’d say is similar to an American hot dog stand. They had bottles of cola, which I wish I’d drink on that very hot day. I snapped this photo while waiting on line to get into the Colosseum. If this was for a journalism class, the photo would probably be rejected because of the lighting, but I find it symbolic given the cross on the lower right.
I thought the time I spent learning about Classical Rome paid off because I got excited after seeing the remains of an aqueduct after exiting. There were some panhandlers on the side dressed as if they were from Ancient Rome, posing with tourists. I’m not enthused by this activity, but I have to say this was one of the more relevant attempts I’ve seen in my travels.
Afterwards, I had a spaghetti al pomodoro at a nearby restaurant. Later, my family would just walk around, later seeing the Roman Forum from a far since it was already closed for the day.
