It’s been almost 11 months since this farewell letter by then-News Editor Nicole Bryk was published in The Ticker.

But if I had to point to any pieces of student journalist-written work that I loved during 2024, this would be one of them.
The first three or four grafs were about me — and much like Nicole Bryk said back then, I will remember that moment I shared with her for the rest of my life. Except I’m not sure if I ever promoted myself. I think I put myself down more than I did up!
With production for 2024 wrapped up at my college paper, this is a nice reflection for staffers at all student papers as they plan for next year. It’s also a reminder of the kind of culture we want to cultivate for new writers who may not necessarily want to pursue a career in journalism, but want to try something different or have the space to hone their skills.
If you’re a young writer involved in student journalism, please read! Everyone else, I still encourage you to read.
