Under the impression that there weren’t enough graphic designers for The Ticker, I decided to volunteer as one for the semester. Well, now we have a lot of artists, but I still like taking opportunities that involve my creative skills. For an arts article in Issue 1 of the spring 2022 semester, otherwise known as Vol. 121, I was to do a piece for an obituary for French designer Manfred Thierry Mugler.
I didn’t really know who Mugler was, but upon seeing the reference pictures provided for the assignment, I recognized his pieces for Lady Gaga and Cardi B. This piece was mostly inspired by the color scheme of Mugler’s work. In the face of a dark-colored canvas, there’s a bright color shining through and popping to the audience. In general, Mugler just stands out. I attempted to capture Mugler’s gold-colored jacket, but it ended up looking more like a raincoat with fleece lining. Still, I’m surprised that I got this down in less than two days.
