The Great Stanton

I did not intend for the illustration to be cropped after I turned it into a gif. That’s the price I’ll have to pay. Regarding the end result of on-and-off illustrating during two nights, the eyes turned out more cartoony, and I’m only noticing flaws with the teeth now, but hey, I at least I had less problems with shadows when it comes to black-and-white pictures.

I don’t have a lot to say about the film itself. I like that TCM’s Eddie Mueller selected this film earlier this month for Noir Alley programming due to the remake giving it relevance. It wasn’t as big as it is today, given what critics said of the story, 20th Century Fox’s reluctance to market it, and Power — who wanted the original story to be adapted into a film so he could star in it as a change from his usual romantic hero roles — not being heroic nor romantic. His performance was well received by critics, and it ended up being his favorite job. My only other comment I have does not have to do with the story or making of it but the lead actor: Power died too soon and so suddenly.

One more illustration left, or not. Maybe I’ll make an effort during commutes or something to doodle. Who’s the last classic star I’ll commemorate? Will it be Sophia Loren? Siân Phillips? Leslie Caron? All of them aren’t going anytime soon. Or maybe I’ll redeem myself for missing Sally Ann Howes’ death. Who knows? Not me.
