Graffiti Everywhere: What Remains on Top

Taken: 14 May 2017

It was Mother’s Day. I was riding the Queens-bound 7 train from Fifth Avenue. Earlier, I was taking pictures at Japan Day in Central Park. I was with my mother as well as my Japanese teacher, who is like a second mother to me.

The rooftop here is on Roosevelt Avenue near 69th Street. The building is a commercial one as most businesses are on this section of Roosevelt. There are vents and some equipment like a satellite antenna on top. This particular building has discarded appliances, furniture, and equipment to add to the mix. To add to what remains on top, someone graffitied a disgusted or dead-looking face. It’s on a working appliance rather than the remains.

Perhaps it’s disgusted by the idea of becoming like them, abandoned on top, where strangers either stare or don’t care.
